When to Apply

Should everything be applied together at one time?

  • Too much of a good thingBecause it’s easier, many families apply several inches of manure or compost to their garden only one time – before planting.
  • Fertilizers are salts, and germinating seeds and small plants are often burned by too much of a good thing.
  • Also, nutrients not used by the plants are leached out of the soil with repeated watering, and after only a few weeks those plants are hungry.
  • Ground water can be polluted by mineral salts when too much is applied at one time.
  • Plants need constant nourishment throughout their growth cycle. Therefore regular small feedings produce larger and healthier crops for a longer time.
